Our Primary Bathroom Makeover & 5 Renovation Tips

Howdy! We are so *Texas* now. lol. Let's start by saying this blog has been long over-due. It's probably taken us just as long as remodeling our primary bathroom. I'm kidding. Not really. Sort of. 

But obviously, it was worth the wait. The bathroom in our primary bedroom got a much needed face-lift / upgrade. We ultimately tore it all down to expand the space and make it everything a grand 'ole bathroom should be. Charming, cozy and sexy.  Links to everything at the bottom of this post!

Bathroom Details: Vanity Mirrors are from Amber Interiors ; Our S+S Goods Cottage in the woods candle; All of the cabinetry was custom-built; All of our hardware is House of Rohl from Facets; Wall Paint: JH Wall Paints colors 2 & 3; Tub: Victoria + Albert; Shop the Lighting fixture above the tub; Puff Stool (vanity area) is old from West Elm (shop similar here); Sink and vanity slabs we chose are Carrara marble;  vanity area is also Carrara; Shower marble slab we chose is called "super white" // Lighting fixtures are Kelly Wearstler in black which you can shop here; Shop our sink light sconces; Persian inspired bath mat: Homegoods find (shop similar here)

I wish I could say the process was as easy as one of those instagram before and after transformation videos. You know the ones where you snap your finger and it's perfect? Yea right -- in our dreams. There's 5 things we learned leading up to our new bathroom sanctuary. We are going to share them with you so you can avoid a headache or two if you're in the thick of renovating or possibly considering it. Who better to give these tips than....Stevie! He GC'ed the entire bathroom project and is naturally really good at this stuff. So enjoy! 

Tip 1: Cast your vision. Before tearing down walls or picking paint colors, spend some time dreaming in the space. If that feels daunting, try this. Go on Pinterest and create a secret board and just start pinning anything and everything that captivates your aesthetic. From hardware inspiration to other bathroom and sink ideas.. pinning is winning! 

Tip 2: Know a budget and some. Know that when you get into renovations there are costs that come up that you didn't anticipate. It's better to create a budget plan with some margin in the event you need it! 

Tip 3: Make sure you're working with someone you vetted that you can trust. Someone who is honest. A contractor who shoots you straight and isn't afraid to help you set realistic expectations. 

Tip 4: Cheaper isn't better. What makes or breaks a renovation is the quality in the craftsmanship. Choose your materials wisely but pick things you will love. Apart from that, hiring the right team is one of the biggest mistakes homeowners might make when trying to save every nickel and dime. Be smart, yes but hiring a random Joe could cost you more money in the long-run. Vet an honest company with experience. A team that understands good quality craftsmanship and has the knowledge and experience to effectively get the job done. It'll save you the headache! Tip 5: Prepare for temporary chaos. Key word: temporary! Remodels happening in the home make life feel a little wonky. People coming in and out, the sounds of drilling - etc. etc. etc. BUT hold on and trust the process. We learned that beautiful things take time so be patient and okay with life being a little out of order for awhile. It will be worth it in the end! :)
